Dave Mallett: singer/songwriter
from America |
He’s written for such
disparate singers as John Denver and the Muppets! |
Hokum Hotshots |
Top blues duo who liberally
sprinkle their amazing sets with much humour. Expert instrumentalists both,
once they got going there was no stopping them and people had to be dragged
out of the place! |
Hillbillies From Outer Space |
Wonderful Alnwick rock
band, they have appeared twice (once as duo and once as an acoustic 4-piece).
Their cover versions have to be heard to be believed… a Soweto version of
‘Bad Moon Rising’ and Floyd’s ‘Another Brick In The Wall’ done reggae style!!
They pull it all off with panache. Surely the best band in the North East.

:Bushburys |
One of the country’s
major attractions, it was a full, full house. The urban hillbilly’s rocked
the place to its foundations. Singer/songwriter Eddy Morton showed us his
folkier side in a separate performance later in the year. |
Kieran Halpin |
Another highly respected
figure on the music scene, mainly thought of as a folk performer but he
is so much more than that. A great writer, a wonderful guitarist, a superb
singer and a nice guy to boot. |
Michael Weston King |
Revered singer/songwriter
for Britain’s premier alt country band The Good Sons. He called of at the
Beamish to deliver a terrific set compiled from his acclaimed solo album
and Suns back catalogue. |
Tandy |
Possibly our best night.
Alternative country band from New York, fresh from supporting Steve Earle
in the states. Mike Ferrio’s Dylan/Townes Van Zandt inspired country folk
won them a whole host of new fans. We await their return in May 2001 with
much anticipation. |
Skiprats |
Rockabilly three-piece
who authentically create the Sun Studios style of rock ‘n’ roll and country…
twangy guitar, slap bass and quavering vocals. A great night with lots of
leather jackets and quiffs!! |
|
We’ve also had ‘mini-sets’
from Stranglers guitarist Baz Warne; teenage blues sensations The Blue Shoulders
and our own residents Jack Burness & the Corner Boys (‘Tonight Matthew,
I’m going to be Van Morrison’); guitar/fiddle duo Tom Young & Judith Thompson,
and last but by no means least, respected local singer/songwriter Kev Phillipson
who delights in borrowing members of Hit The Bottle. Lots more great nights
to come, check our listings. We’d love to hear your views and suggestions
for acts you’d like to see playing here. It is, after all, your club. |
